Allergic to Dogs? - discussion board

Welcome! This board is for sharing information, experiences, suggestions, and questions among pet allergy sufferers (people allergic to dogs). It is not intended to replace advice from medical professionals. Always contact your own allergy specialist for the diagnosis and treatment of your allergies!

There is NO "non-allergic" (no allergy causing) dog breed! All dogs produce dander, saliva, and urine that people can be allergic to. However, some dog breeds supposedly produce less dander than others. These breeds are often referred to as being "hypo-allergenic" (LESS LIKELY to cause an allergic reaction) or "allergy friendly". Read more.

For more allergy messages, visit the "Allergic to Dogs?" bb archives.

You can switch between two different board styles by clicking on the "switch to threaded style" or "switch to board style" link. I like the board style because it puts the latest messages on the top.

Please, use descriptive subject lines.

Getting a cockapoo

Thanks!

Re: Getting a cockapoo

I just got a schnauzer a lower allergy breed. I have a 5 year old wheaten and nobody had any problems with him but this female schnauzer puppy is killing us already. Have to call the allergist in the morning and extremely stressed about the whole thing. Hope your cockapoo works out.

Re: Re: Getting a cockapoo

I'm sorry to hear that. Are you guys normally allergic to dogs? Maybe getting the second dog was just too much dander in the house. I hope things work out and your allergist can help you. Our puppy is coming in two days. I'm nervous about the allergies but hopeful that things will work out. If not, I'll be seeing my allergist too!
Take care and keep me posted.

Sorry to hear that! Are you guys normally allergic to dogs or is this a new thing? I wonder if adding a second dog to the household, and not the breed of dog, is what threw your allergies over the edge.
Let m know what the doctor says.
