Allergic to Dogs? - discussion board

Welcome! This board is for sharing information, experiences, suggestions, and questions among pet allergy sufferers (people allergic to dogs). It is not intended to replace advice from medical professionals. Always contact your own allergy specialist for the diagnosis and treatment of your allergies!

There is NO "non-allergic" (no allergy causing) dog breed! All dogs produce dander, saliva, and urine that people can be allergic to. However, some dog breeds supposedly produce less dander than others. These breeds are often referred to as being "hypo-allergenic" (LESS LIKELY to cause an allergic reaction) or "allergy friendly". Read more.

For more allergy messages, visit the "Allergic to Dogs?" bb archives.

You can switch between two different board styles by clicking on the "switch to threaded style" or "switch to board style" link. I like the board style because it puts the latest messages on the top.

Please, use descriptive subject lines.

New allergies

My stepdaughter is 10 and has had allergies and asthma since I've known her (for about three years). We only see her once every three weeks, since she lives with her mother in another state.

Anyway, last week she had a terrible asthma attack at her mother's house. And was ill for several days. Her mother says the doc says it's because of a delayed reaction to our two fairly long-haired dogs, who she hadn't seen at that point for three weeks.

She and her mother have a shorter-haired dog of their own, but her mother is claiming that their dog is fine (it's a min pin) and that it's our dogs (again, who she hadn't seen in several weeks).

Can this be possible? (We think no. And in fact, she's here with us now for several days and is fine!)

Help?
