College Sports by Charlie
Irreverent college sports commentary. It's all about the money and has nothing to do with education.

Clemson/S. Carolina vs ND/USC
Clemson/S. Carolina vs ND/ USC Charlie, i got a real kick out of the comments from our Yankee friend Craig Cara-whatever about Carolina-Clemson. ND-SoCal is the most media fabricted "rivalry" (term used loosely) in the history of College Football. There is nothing natural or innate about that game. Carolina-Clemson is by far a more heated and anticipated football game as it is lived in the Palmetto State and other parts of the South by the faithful 365 days a year. We live, work, eat, drink (a lot) and sometimes marry...with the opposition. The small geographic area that is South Carolina only intensifies this annual Gridiron Battle. The History and folklore that accompany this game is well documented and earned up to and including the parade before the game in the early 1900's in which the locals of Columbia actually drew arms against the 'enemy from Clemson' on Statehouse grounds. You can read about the prank in which a USC fraternity actually dressed up as the Clemson team and entered the field for pre-game warmups and began a display that the "Keystone Cops" would be proud of...to the delight and entertainment of the Carolina fans in the Stadium of course. The "ticket-gate" game is another to remember in which thousands of counterfeit tickets were distributed around the State before the Thanksgiving Day game and resulted in fans forcing their way into the game and onto the field as security could not keep the overflow crowds from doing so...the game was played as fans ran up and down the sidelines with the action ongoing. Thank you for realizing, Charlie, that RIVALRIES do not need to reflect winning percentages, more so the lifestyles and faithful...Carolina and Clemson...for which the games are played.
