Subject:   1 week on crutches after core decompression?

Message:   I am awaiting scheduling for hip core decompression surgery. A noted joint replacement specialist here will perform the surgery. He explained that I will be on crutches 1 week after the surgery. I have read about core decompression online and in almost every case crutches were used for an average of 6 weeks. My concern is that 1 week of crutches may not be sufficient and I may run the risk of a fracture. The problem lies with my left hip; however, he recommends performing the core decompression surgery on the right hip as well as preventative maintenance to avoid possible complications with that hip. Perhaps there is a new technique that is used to enhance recovery time; however, I am rather confused and hope that someone can enlighten me. Thank you.
