More info on McGovern.

I'm sure a lot of you might know thsi already, but incase you dont here is some information on the Coat of Arms for us McGovern's. Also note this is a bit long. But for any McGovern this is worth reading.

McGovern

The Irish name McGovern is derived from the native Gaelic Mag Shamhrain Sept, taken from a word meaning 'Summer'. The Sept was based in County Cavan and around the town of Ballymagauran, showing that there were a number of other Anglo names assumed by this Sept, including MacGowran and Magauran.

I've read on this site, and apparently the author dosent know what summer means in our name. Heres what it means.

The season of summer is represented on our coat of arms by the Lion. Heres the meaning behind all of it.

Fierce Courage.

In Ireland the Lion represented the 'lion' season, prior to the full arrival of Summer. The symbol can also represent a great Warrior or Chief.

Now with the Colors of the C.O.A. The main colors used are Blue, Green and Gold. Lets start with Gold(Or). The meaning of this color means generosity. Blue(In Gaelic its known as Azure): Strength and Loyalty, Green(Vert):Hope, loyalty in love. The Crecent moon and lion is yellow. and some other family crests they are different colors. so the color of the lion and moon is important.

The Crescent moons meaning is:

Hope of glory, one who has been enlightened. Sign of the second son. (a sign that our history of being druids is also true, as pointed out on this site.)

The shape of the Shield:Known as "Bordure". The meaning:

Represents Honour, as used to differentiate between family members

The coat of arms im looking at is different than the one on this site, The only difference is that there is a tree on the one this site has. Here is the meaning:

Antiquity and Strength

In Ireland the Oak tree was the most noble of the Chieftain trees.

So there you have it. McGoverns are noble, We have courage, we were Cheifs, Druids and apparently Warriors.
