I recently found one of my ancestors, John McGovern, born Dec 15, 1851 in NYC at 125 Roosevelt Street in the 4th Ward, living in New Haven, CT. In the 1880 census he was living with his wife Anna (Deinhardt)McGovern and three daughters, Caroline (b 1875), Mary (b.1876), and Anna (b 4/3/1880) in the 22nd Ward of NYC. In the 1900 through the
1930 census he is living alone, listed as a widower, in New Haven, CT. In New Haven he was listed as a sailor and he lived close to dock area... De Witt Street.
I noticed on the Genealogy forum website for the McGovern surname that several people had McGovern's from Co. Leitrim that moved to New Haven. My John McGovern's mother was a native of Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.Wonder if John had relatives from Co. Leitrim there.
I would like to hear from others with ties to New Haven.
