The difference between yoga and asana is often misunderstood, as many people assume they are the same. Yoga is a holistic lifestyle practice that includes physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Asana, on the other hand, refers specifically to the physical postures practiced in yoga. While yoga covers meditation, breath control (pranayama), ethics, and philosophy, asana is only one of its eight limbs. The difference between yoga and asana becomes clear when we realize yoga aims at self-realization, whereas asana focuses on physical health and flexibility. Practicing asanas regularly strengthens the body and improves posture. However, yoga as a whole brings balance to the mind, body, and soul.
