living without a hip joint

Would love to hear from anyone who is living without a hip joint. Have had six operations all on the same hip and currently having pain. In the past my surgeon said it could be a possibly if the hip failed again. Thanks.

Re: living without a hip joint

Yes I am living without a left hip joint. I have an elevated shoe and use a cane. The surgery to luxate (if I am using the word luxate correctly)the hip was done in December 2008. During the summer of 2009 I was told that the area of that hip was as if a bomb went off. Any surgery would only slightly if at all improve my situation.

Re: living without a hip joint

My dad just had his artificial hip components removed as the upper femur was in bad condition. He will not have a hip joint as a new one could not be put in. Is this similar to what happened to you? The doctor said he would be limited to a wheelchair and a walker.
