Well it finally happened, was cruising back from Dubai on the E611 last night around midnight just enjoying the empty road and the V8 rumble when my 2015 Mustang GT suddenly started making this awful grinding noise in third gear that made me pull over immediately because it sounded like someone had thrown a bag of spanners into the transmission tunnel, and now the car is sitting on the back of a flatbed outside my building in Al Nahda and I'm honestly not sure if I should bother fixing it or just cut my losses and sell it as a project to someone with more patience and deeper pockets. I've been nursing that third gear synchro for months with double clutching and gentle shifts but I guess the Sharjah summer traffic finally finished it off and my regular mechanic near Rolla already told me he doesn't open these Getrag boxes because the parts are hard to get and he's had bad experiences with them coming back a few months later with the same issue. I started searching around on some Mustang forums and a few guys in the UAE section mentioned there are actual Mustang Transmission Specialists Sharjah that rebuild these MT82s with upgraded synchros and better shift forks and they actually warranty their work, which sounds almost too good to be true given how many shops I've called that just laughed when I said the words "Mustang manual gearbox" and told me to find a used one from a wrecked car in Al Sajaa. I'm torn because I love this car and I've put a lot of work into the suspension and exhaust already, but I also don't want to sink five figures into a gearbox rebuild only to have it start grinding again next summer when I'm trying to enjoy a nice drive to Khorfakkan, anyone on here actually gone through an MT82 rebuild locally and can tell me if the fix actually lasts or if I'm just better off selling it as is and moving on to something with a Tremec that doesn't eat itself every forty thousand kilometers?
