I am doing a geneolgical search and and was told by an elder in my family that family members served in the army. I also came across a number of officers with the surname Talbot(t) in the Gleaner archive, however, their firstnames were really mentioned as they were reffered to as Capt. Col. or Leut. Talbot(t). If there is any information in your records that can be discloused to me about these persons I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance. |

TIME SPENT IN THE MILATARY WAS THE GREATEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO AND FOR ME. THIS TIME REAFFIRMED IN ME A SENCE OF DISCIPLINE,RESPECT OF SELF,AND RESPECT OF OTHERS,WHICH I CARRY TO THIS DAY .THE MILATARY MADE AN ADULT OF A YOUNG MAN THAT IN MY HUMBLE OPINION NO OTHER ORGANIZATION OR PARENT COULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. MY MILATARY EXPERIENCE HAS ALLOWED ME THE PREVILIDGE TO APROACH LIFE AND ALL ITS DIFFICULTIES FROM A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL THAN THE FOLKS WHO WERE NOT SO PREVILIDGED.TO ALL MY BROTHERS OF THIS PRESTIGEOUS FRATERNITY____I SINCERELY HOPE THATYOU WILL FOREVER WALK IN THE ETERNAL LIGHT OF DEVINE WISDOM. |

I live 12 miles from Seaford, East Sussex and today I was at the cemetery there to lay down my fathers ashes. While I was there I took a look at the military graves, which are mostly Canadian. So I was surprised to find British West Indies Regimental stones there. I have done some local research but would like to know more about these brave and largely unsung heroes. I have lived locally for 23 years and knew nothing of their graves, even though the Canadian graves are well known. I would like to put substance to those names on the stones. |

Very good to have served. I hope to be present at all future Re-Unions. Please ensure that any former officers of both WIR & JDF who attends any of the re-unions are kept informed of all future re-unions. I think that all serving members of the Region's Defence Forces should be informed and invited to our Re-Unions. |

A special Thank you to Brigadier Joseph Theodore who was my (Recruit Training Officer), TTDF Forces Sgt. Major Stanley Miles my Drill Sgt. as a recruit and my AMI Instructor on my NCO's Cadre, and the late Great Major Anthony Spencer who encouraged me to attend University. During my Army career I continued to play music professionally with bands like Trinidad Troubadours. Sparrow Troubadours, WITCO Desperadoes and many brass bands throughout Trinidad. Special Thank You to Officer John Job my Bush Platoon Sgt. that gave me Music Instruments from his Club to open a Band that allowed us to Play in some very large Dances only after 4 months. I also played music for S/Sgt. Slapper Collins and Private Bartholomew respective bands. After my discharge from the Army I was recruited into the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force Band as Drum Major and Music instructor by Mr. Desmond Waithe the Band Master. I served from 1977 to 1981 when I left to attend University. I was responsible for teaching more than 50 Cadet Band members to play brass and drums that was recruited by Major Wade into the Army Band for the first time and some in the Drum Corp. Before that time, Cadet Band members were only recruited into the Drum Corp. POINTS TO NOTE: In 1978 I personally introduced into the Cadet Force Band 12 Tenor Steel Drums that was given to me by Rudolph Charles From Desperadoes that we used on many parades including Independence. This got me in trouble with the Commanding Officer Walke and the Adjutant Sebro. They asked me who gave me permission and I said that the steel drum is a national instrument and I am the music instructor and decided to use it where there were no other instrument. No other Military band in T&T had Steel Drum except two tenors in the Army before and was stopped. In 2000 I returned to Trinidad and introduced flag drill into the Cadet Band along with arrangement of the music. I was one of the two Drum Majors on that parade and Twirled a Mace and Tenor Drum Stick simultaneously. In the Army I was recommended by the late Bandmaster Watson to the late Commanding Officer Christopher to be Drum Major, but the CO refused stating that I was too young I was about 20 years old. This cause me trouble with some senior soldiers and NCOs.I was told I want to take the Drum Major's Job, As a company clerk I knew all the Defence Act and Standing Orders and because of this I was termed a barrack room lawyer. However, all my experience in the Army made me a knowledgeable person. With my intelligence and army experience I can make my own music contracts, file affidavits and summons in high court and represent myself in court and win lawyers with PHD's I have obtained a Masters in Information Systems Management; Bachelors in Computer programming; Two Associate Dewgrees' and a Graduate Certificate in Information Systems. I have Created The TTDF Veterans INC. USA . New York Marching Band. (A NY State Registered Not For Profit Org). I have Numerous Instruments and I need more kids. Ages: 10 to 20 yrs. old.
